What is this label for?
Eco Product is specifically for those who wish to apply for a rating for products.
Who can apply?
Manufacturers, agents or distributors can apply for the Eco Product Label.
What is required?
The applicant must be able to prove that their product is ‘green’. Information regarding the inputs, throughputs and outputs of the manufacturing process will be required. This will include information regarding the raw materials; how much energy and water is required to make the product; how much waste is generated manufacturing the product; where the product is made and how raw materials are transported to the manufacturing plant.
What are the criteria used to assess the product?
Lifecycle Analysis (LCA) principles are employed to undertake the assessment, although a full LCA will not be conducted. The scope has been defined in terms of ISO 14024 although Eco Standard have changed the terms used to describe these areas of focus to be in line with current cradle-to-cradle approach of product manufacture. Therefore the following is included:
